OHL Power Rankings: Dec. 30, 2024
One last Power Rankings for 2024! The London Knights continue to lead the way, sitting at the top for a seventh straight week.
Who’s up:
Erie Otters – up one spot to #4 this week
The Otters beat the Guelph Storm 4-2 on Saturday night, getting a pair of goals from Sam Alfano along with 39 saves from goaltender Noah Erliden. The Otters are in action again on New Year’s Eve at home to Brantford.
Barrie Colts – up one spot to #5 this week
The Colts doubled-up on North Bay, winning both portions of a home-and-home. Ben Hrebik continues to be a story in the crease, improving to 11-2-1-0. Dalyn Wakely scored twice in his return to North Bay on Sunday.
Brampton Steelheads – up one spot to #13 this week
The Trout beat the Ottawa 67’s 7-3 on Saturday, welcoming Dallas Stars prospect Angus MacDonell back from injury. The Steelheads are hoping for a better second half as they await the return of Porter Martone, Carson Rehkopf, Jack Ivankovic, Jakub Fibigr and Adam Zidlicky from the World Juniors.
Sarnia Sting – up two spots to #15 this week
The Sting are back on the list for the first time since early November after defeating the Saginaw Spirit 4-3 on Saturday. Sarnia sits seventh in the Western Conference, with an eight-point cushion between themselves and the Guelph Storm for playoff contention.
Who’s down:
Niagara IceDogs – down two spots to #6 this week
The Dogs had a forgettable trip to Michigan, losing to both Flint and Saginaw as they saw a seven-game winning streak draw to a close.
Ottawa 67’s – down one spot to #14 this week
The Barber Poles lost in Brampton on Saturday before rallying to defeat the Peterborough Petes 5-4 at the PMC on Sunday thanks to a late winner from Will Gerrior.
Peterborough Petes – down one spot to #16 this week
The Petes came out of the break with a loss to Ottawa despite leading the game heading into the latter half of the third period. The Petes visit the Niagara IceDogs on New Year’s Eve.
North Bay Battalion – down one spot and off the list this week
The Troops lost consecutive outings against rival Barrie, being bumped out of the top-16 this week. They’ll try and close out 2024 in winning fashion with a New Year’s Eve matinee at home to the Kitchener Rangers.
