Canada comes up short on New Year’s Eve in 4-1 loss to United States
Canada managed to outshoot their American rivals 39-28, but came up on the wrong end of a 4-1 score at the Canadian Tire Centre on New Year’s Eve in Kanata.
Goals from Cole Hutson, Danny Nelson, Cole Eiserman and Ryan Leonard powered the United States to victory, sealing first place in Group A heading into Thursday’s quarterfinal round. The Americans went 3-for-7 on the power play, capitalizing on their opportunities.
Bradly Nadeau responded for Canada and goaltender Carter George (Owen Sound Attack) stopped 24-of-27 in the loss. U.S. goaltender Trey Augustine earned player of the game honours for his team, making 38 saves.
Canada wraps-up the preliminary round in third place in Group A, setting up a quarterfinal matchup against Czechia on Thursday at 7:30pm. The United States will take on Switzerland, Sweden will face Latvia and Finland will take on Slovakia in other quarterfinal matchups.
