OHL Mourns the Loss of Daniel Minor

The Ontario Hockey League is saddened by the loss of former Barrie Colts forward Daniel Minor who passed away suddenly on March 12th at the age of 32.

A big winger from Dunnville, Ont., Minor played in parts of two seasons for the Colts, suiting up in 28 games during the 2006-07 campaign, recording two goals and an assist.

“What I remember most about him was not necessarily Dan the hockey player, but that he was a very kind person and just a genuine great guy,” Winnipeg Jets forward and former Colts teammate Bryan Little told Barrie 360’s Gene Pereira. “He got along with everybody and knew how to lift the mood of everyone around him.”

Minor was a third round pick of the Colts in the 2005 OHL Priority Selection. Former Colts head coach and general manager Marty Williamson remembers him well.

“He was a real likeable kid, always smiling, always happy,” Williamson told Pereira. “Just infectious in that way, so it’s just sad. He’s got a young son and when you see that and realize he’s one of your guys 14 years ago and now he’s gone it’s a tragedy.”

Following his playing career, Minor returned home to serve as coach of the Dunnville Mudcats Jr. C program. He also enjoyed time out on the boat where he took part in the family fishing business.

Minor leaves behind wife Haley and son Jack, parents Tom and Michelle as well as sister Lynsey.
