OHL grads win Kelly Cup title with ECHL’s Trois-Rivieres Lions
The Trois-Rivieres Lions, ECHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens, are 2025 Kelly Cup champions, defeating the Toledo Walleye (affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings) in five games, capped by a 4-1 win on home ice Saturday.
Flint Firebirds graduate Luke Cavallin claimed the June M. Kelly Playoffs Most Valuable Player Award, posting a 15-5 record with a 1.53 goals-against average and .948 save percentage in 20 postseason contests.
Other OHL graduates on the roster included defencemen Jacob Paquette (Peterborough Petes) and Emmett Serensits (Sudbury Wolves) along with goaltenders Hunter Jones (Peterborough Petes) and Joe Vrbetic (North Bay Battalion).
Trois-Rivieres put an end to the Florida Everblades’ run of ECHL dominance, eliminating them in the Eastern Conference Final after Florida won the last three league championships. The Lions also eliminated the Reading Royals and Norfolk Admirals on their march to the championship.
Trois-Rivieres placed third during the regular season with a record of 45-19-6-2. The championship marks a spectacular end to the franchise’s fourth year of operation in the ECHL.
