Milestone Moments: September 20, 2018
Barrie Colts teammates Matej Pekar and Riley Piercey joined Peterborough Petes goaltender Hunter Jones and Windsor Spitfires rookie Will Cuylle with Milestone Moments on Thursday.
MATEJ PEKAR (BARRIE COLTS):
In what could be the first of many this season, Buffalo Sabres prospect Matej Pekar scored the first goal of the Barrie Colts season with 58 seconds left in the first period of a 9-2 home opening win over Owen Sound on Thursday. Pekar’s first of two on the night came with assists from Jason Willms and Tyler Tucker as he rushed the puck up-ice before putting a shot through Attack netminder Mack Guzda. Pekar’s OHL debut included three points as the Colts stampeded out of the gate.
RILEY PIERCEY (BARRIE COLTS):
Barrie Colts first round pick Riley Piercey wasted little time getting onto an OHL scoresheet, doing so with 58 seconds remaining in his first career contest. Piercey’s first came on a scramble around the Owen Sound goal as Tyler Tucker took a shot from the perimeter that glanced into the net off Piercey’s in the slot. The 16-year-old Mississauga, Ont. native spent last season with the Toronto Marlboros and was the 16th overall pick of the OHL Priority Selection this past April.
HUNTER JONES (PETERBOROUGH PETES):
The first shutout of the 2018-19 season belongs to Hunter Jones. The soon-to-be 18-year-old stopped all 38 shots he faced against the Kingston Frontenacs as the Peterborough Petes claimed a 4-0 win in their home opener. Jones was tested throughout the game but stood tall, making a statement to start the season that he’s the man for the starting job following the graduation of long-time veteran Dylan Wells.
WILL CUYLLE (WINDSOR SPITFIRES):
A young man many have been talking about, Windsor Spitfires rookie Will Cuylle tied the score at three with 6:46 to go in the third period before the Spits defeated the Guelph Storm by a score of 4-3 in overtime. Cuylle snapped a shot home from the slot as Cody Morgan and Tyler Angle collected assists. The big 6-foot-2, 200Ib. Cuylle was the third overall pick of the 2018 OHL Priority Selection and was acquired by the Spitfires in late August. Expect many more of these in the future from Cuylle.
