Milestone Moments: Sept. 28/17

 

Add three more names to the OHL’s list of first goals for the 2017-18 season Here’s a look at Thursday’s new milestones.

 

ALEXEY LIPANOV (BARRIE COLTS):
The same day he signed a three-year entry level NHL contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Barrie Colts newcomer Alexey Lipanov scored his first OHL goal. The Russian forward opened the scoring 11:42 into the first period, lighting the lamp shorthanded with an assist from fellow countryman Andrei Svechnikov. Lipanov was Barrie’s first round choice in the 2016 CHL Import Draft and he finished Thursday’s matchup with a goal and two assists. Expect several more goals from this dynamic talent this season.

 

RYAN ROTH (SAULT STE. MARIE GREYHOUNDS):
A 17-year-old rookie from Ladue, Missouri, Ryan Roth picked up his first OHL goal on Thursday in Barrie, taking advantage of a turnover up the middle to sneak a release past Colts netminder Leo Lazarev. The Hounds fell 4-3 in overtime, but Roth built off a two-assist effort last weekend against London to give him three points in as many games on the young season. The former Honeybaked U16 product was signed by the Greyhounds as a free agent this past summer.

 

JACK YORK (KITCHENER RANGERS):
Recently turned 17-year-old blueliner Jack York helped the Kitchener Rangers hand the Windsor Spitfires their first loss of the season on Thursday, ripping home a first period wrist shot in a 4-2 road win. The son of OHL graduate and former long-time NHL blueliner Jason York, Jack was a fifth round pick of the Rangers in the 2016 OHL Priority Selection.
