Milestone Moments: December 13, 2018
ELIAS COHEN (ERIE OTTERS):
Rookie forward Elias Cohen was in the slot to redirect his first career OHL goal past Windsor’s Colton Incze for the winning goal in a 7-4 Erie Otters road victory in Windsor. Blueliner Jamie Drysdale sent a puck goalward that got tipped enroute by Cohen who put the Otters ahead for good 3:08 into the third period. A Mississauga Senators graduate, Cohen scored in his OHL debut after being a sixth round pick by the Otters this past spring. He’s spent this season with the Toronto Nationals Midget AAA club.
SHAWN SPEARING (PETERBOROUGH PETES):
First-year defender Shawn Spearing opened the scoring with 4:35 left in the opening period, helping the Peterborough Petes defeat the visiting Flint Firebirds 5-2 on Thursday. The first of Spearing’s OHL career came on a setup by Nick Robertson as Spearing wristed a point shot through traffic that found its way past goaltender Luke Cavallin. The 16-year-old from Toronto, Ont. captained the Toronto Jr. Canadiens Minor Midgets to an OHL Cup title last spring before being selected by Peterborough in the fourth round of the 2018 OHL Priority Selection.
EVAN VIERLING (FLINT FIREBIRDS):
2018 second overall OHL Priority Selection choice Evan Vierling scored his first career OHL goal on Thursday. The Flint Firebirds rookie sped down the wing to beat Peterborough’s Hunter Jones with 1:50 left in the opening period, giving Flint a 2-1 lead. The Firebirds would lose Thursday’s matchup by a score of 5-2, but Vierling came away with his seventh point (1-6–7) in his 26th game of the season. The York-Simcoe Express graduate is a 16-year-old native of Aurora, Ont.
