IceDogs sign fourth overall selection Braidy Wassilyn
NIAGARA, ON – The Niagara IceDogs are pleased to announce the commitment of Braidy Wassilyn to an OHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.
“Today marks a great day for the organization and the region of Niagara on the official addition of Braidy Wassilyn. Braidy is a high octane player who will make an immediate impact on our roster both on and off the ice,” noted Interim GM Wes Consorti.
Wassilyn, a 6’1 and 195 lbs centreman from Campbellville, ON was selected 4th overall by the IceDogs in the most recent OHL Priority Selection. He spent his U16 season with the Markham Majors in the GTHL where he served as the team’s captain, while posting an impressive 31 goals and 31 assists for 62 points across 32 games of league play. Wassilyn was also selected to suit up for Team Canada at the Youth Olympics in Gangwon, South Korea.
OHL Central Scouting on Braidy Wassilyn: “Braidy is one of the most dynamic and offensively gifted players in this year’s Priority Selection. He is a threat every time he is one the ice, and will constantly challenge defenders with his speed and skill. He is a dangerous one on one player as he has the size, skill and speed that makes him hard to handle all over the ice. He competes hard every shift and he is always playing the game at a high pace. He has a cannon for a shot and will put the puck on the net from anywhere in the offensive zone, definitely a shoot first type of player. Braidy will be an elite goal scorer at the next level.”
Fans will get their first look at Braidy Wassilyn on Saturday, April 27th as the IceDogs host their annual Orientation Camp at Seymour Hannah Sports Centre. The two one-ice sessions, 9am-11am and 2pm-4pm, will be open to the public with free entry.
