Huron-Perth Lakers crowned International Silver Stick Champions in Whitby
The Huron-Perth Lakers became the first ALLIANCE U16 AAA club to win the Gloria Rints International Silver Stick Tournament in 17 years this past weekend, defeating the Toronto Red Wings by a score of 3-2 in overtime on Sunday,
Lakers captain Jake Murray scored the deciding goal in the extra frame, building off a pair of other Huron-Perth tallies from Jesse DeBruyn in the championship win. The club is coached by former London Knights forward Krys Barch, who played in the OHL from 1997-2000 before embarking on a 381-game NHL career spent between Dallas, Florida and New Jersey.
Huron-Perth skated to a 3-1 quarter-final win over the Vaughan Kings followed by a 2-1 semi-final victory over the Toronto Jr. Canadiens to reach the big dance.
Huron-Perth is 11-0-2 in regular season play, outscoring opponents 67-15.
The Whitby Silver Stick featured a three-way tie for the tournament scoring crown with Toronto Jr. Canadiens forward Keaton Ardagh and Detroit Little Caesars teammates Landon Jackman and Massimo Santa Maria each registering 10 points.
