Greyhounds acquire veteran defenceman Moore from Frontenacs
The Soo Greyhounds have acquired defenceman Lukas Moore and Brantford’s fourth-round pick in the 2028 OHL Priority Selection from the Kingston Frontenacs.
In exchange, Kingston receives its own sixth-round selection in 2028 along with Sault Ste. Marie’s fourth-round selection in 2030.
Moore joins the Greyhounds after spending his first two OHL seasons with the Frontenacs, appearing in 89 regular-season games while recording four goals, nine assists and 13 points.
The 6-foot-3, 201-pound right-shot defenceman recorded a plus-18 rating with Kingston in 2025-26, ranking second on the team.
A native of Courtice, ON, Moore was originally selected by the Frontenacs in the fourth round, 78th overall, of the 2023 OHL Priority Selection.
Greyhounds General Manager Kyle Raftis identified adding experience on the right side of the club’s defence as a priority after evaluating the group throughout training camp and the preseason.
“Rather than waiting to see how things settled once the season got underway, we felt it was important to be proactive and look for a player who could come in and fit with our group right away,” said Raftis. “Lukas gives us that opportunity.
“He’s getting a fresh start with us and a chance to continue the development of his game, while we’re adding a veteran defenceman who can play in a number of different situations and give us some added flexibility throughout our lineup.”
The move gives Moore an opportunity to join a Greyhounds blueline that has seen several young players compete for larger roles ahead of the regular season.
“I’m really excited for the fresh start and the new opportunity,” said Moore. “I’ve heard nothing but great things about the organization, and I’m looking forward to getting to know the boys and the coaching staff. I’m ready to get started, get to work, and be a part of the Greyhounds.”
For Kingston, the transaction provides additional future draft capital while creating opportunity within a crowded group of defencemen.
“We’d like to thank Lukas for his time here in Kingston,” said Frontenacs General Manager Kory Cooper. “He always did what was asked of him and was always striving to get better, but we have a crowded blueline at the moment and this move allows him to get a great opportunity with a good organization in the Soo. We wish him all the best.”
