Friday Highlights: Stars come out to play

 

SARNIA 6 – SAULT STE. MARIE 3
The wins just keep coming for the Sarnia Sting as captain Jordan Kyrou (9, 10, 11) scored his second hat-trick of the season while veteran netminder Justin Fazio made 46 saves in their 12th consecutive victory. The fast-paced contest saw the Hounds outshoot the Sting 49-31 only to fall 6-3 as Sarnia went 3-for-8 on the power play. Despite being heavily outshot, the Sting won 50 of the game’s 78 faceoffs, a 64% success clip. Sean Josling (5), Adam Ruzicka (11) and Connor Schlichting (2) also had goals as the Sting improved to 13-1-0-0, outscoring opponents 77-34 in the process. Morgan Frost (5), Conor Timmins (1) and Tim Gettinger (7) scored for Sault Ste. Marie while Brett Jacklin recorded two assists. The Greyhounds drop to 9-3-2-0. The Hounds and Sting meet again on November 10th back in Sarnia.

LONDON 8 – FLINT 2
St. Louis Blues prospect Robert Thomas (6, 7, 8, 9) had a career night, scoring four times while adding two assists for six points in an 8-2 win over visiting Flint. Ottawa Senators prospect Alex Formenton (1) scored his first goal of the season while Billy Moskal (1), Tim Fallowfield (1) and Cliff Pu (2) also got in on the scoring. The Knights outshot the Firebirds 40-24, going 3-for-4 on the power play to improve to 4-8-1-0 on the campaign. Ethan Keppen (5) and Nicholas Caamano (5) replied with goals for the Firebirds as they drop to 6-5-1-0. Pittsburgh Penguins prospect Sam Miletic finished the night with four assists for London while the aforementioned Formenton had a goal and three helpers.

WINDSOR 7 – SUDBURY 2
The Windsor Spitfires bounced back from a Thursday night blanking in North Bay as captain Aaron Luchuk (12, 13, 14) exploded for three goals and two assists in a 7-2 road win over the Sudbury Wolves. Ottawa Senators prospect Logan Brown (1, 2) scored his first two goals of the season and chipped in with two assists while New York Rangers prospect Sean Day (2) had a goal and an assist. Mathew MacDougall (4) also scored while Michael DiPietro collected the win in goal with a 24-save performance. The Spits outshot the Wolves 40-26, improving to 8-5-1-0 on the campaign. Sudbury goals came from Troy Lajeunesse (3) and Darian Pilon (3) while Dmitry Sokolov had a pair of helpers. The Wolves fall to 4-8-2-0.

MISSISSAUGA 2 – KINGSTON 1 – OT
The Mississauga Steelheads trailed for over half of the hockey game before Vegas Golden Knights prospect Nicolas Hague (4) knotted the score at one with 1:52 remaining in the third period. After a pair of big saves from goaltender Jacob Ingham in the extra frame, 2018 NHL Draft prospect Ryan McLeod set up Trent Fox (5) for the game winner with 2:07 left on the clock. The Trout outshot the Frontenacs 35-22, improving to 3-9-0-0 as Fox had a goal and an assist and led all players with 10 shots on goal. Tyler Burnie (4) provided the lone Kingston goal as the Frontenacs suffered their seventh straight loss, getting a single point in the process. Fronts goaltender Jeremy Helvig made 33 saves in defeat.

GUELPH 4 – ERIE 3 – SO
Arizona Coyotes prospect Nate Schnarr scored the shootout winner as the Guelph Storm edged the visiting Erie Otters 4-3. Goaltender Anthony Popovich made 33 saves and turned away all three shootout opponents he faced as the Storm won despite being outshot 36-26. Barret Kirwin (3), Garrett McFadden (3) and Cedric Ralph (4) all scored for the Storm while Dallas Stars prospect Liam Hawel picked up a pair of assists. Detroit Red Wings draftee Jordan Sambrook (3, 4) scored twice for the Otters while Cade Robinson (2) provided their other goal. Guelph climbs back to the .500 mark at 6-6-0-1 while Erie sees a three game winning streak come to an end, dropping to 5-6-1-1 in the Midwest Division.

OWEN SOUND 5 – KITCHENER 2
Sean Durzi (6, 7) continued his tear across OHL scoresheets with two goals and an assist as the Owen Sound Attack took a 5-2 win in Kitchener. Durzi now has 23 points (7-16–23) over 12 contests to lead all OHL defencemen while being tied for third in league scoring. Aidan Dudas (7, 8) also had a pair of goals for the Bears while Maksim Sushko (9) finished things off. Owen Sound outshot Kitchener 43-32 to climb over the Rangers in the Midwest Division standings with a 7-3-0-2 record. Nick McHugh (3) and Connor Bunnaman (6) scored for the Rangers while Luke Richardson made 38 saves in the loss. Kitchener’s third straight loss sees them drop to 7-6-1-0 on the season.

OSHAWA 4 – PETERBOROUGH 1
Allan McShane set up three goals and Serron Noel (8, 9) scored two of them as the Oshawa Generals defeated the rival Peterborough Petes 4-1 on home ice. Kenny Huether (8) and Renars Krastenbergs (5) also scored for the Gennies as they outshot the Petes 37-25 and improved to 7-5-2-0. Boston Bruins prospect Kyle Keyser made 24 saves on the night, surrendering one Peterborough goal off the stick of John Parker-Jones (1) who scored the first of his OHL career. The Petes drop to 9-5-0-1, suffering their third loss in the last four games. The two clubs meet again on November 16th in Peterborough.
