Four GTHL teams clinch spots at 2024 OHL Cup
The GTHL semi-finals are set, with four teams securing a place at the 2024 OHL Cup presented by FPS Payment that gets underway on Monday, March 25th at the Scotiabank Pond in Toronto.
Finishing first place in the GTHL regular season with a record of 29-3-4, the Vaughan Kings, who have also sat atop the OHL Cup Top 10 Rankings throughout the season, are into the semis following a series sweep of the Toronto Titans.
Vaughan will face the Mississauga Rebels as their next challenge as they’ve come-off a 3-1 series win over the Toronto Jr. Canadiens, upsetting the higher-seeded JRC team as all four games finished with final scores of 2-1. The Rebels were the GTHL’s fifth place team during the regular season, playing to a mark of 23-10-3.
The other semi-final series pits the second place North York Rangers (30-5-1) against the Toronto Marlboros (26-7-3).
Ranked fourth in last week’s OHL Cup Top 10, North York eliminated the Don Mills Flyers with a 3-1 series victory while the Marlies come-off a 3-0 series sweep of the Markham Majors.
As the highest placed team in the standings not to clinch a spot in the GTHL semi-finals, the Toronto Jr. Canadiens will, at the very least, play in an OHL Cup wild card play-in game on Monday, March 25th.
GTHL semi-final action gets underway on Tuesday.
