Firebirds sign U18 draft selection Matthew Pittman

FLINT – The Flint Firebirds announced on Wednesday that the team has signed defenceman Matthew Pittman to a Standard Player Agreement. 

“I am super grateful to become a part of the Firebirds community,” Pittman said. “I can’t wait to get started.”

Flint drafted Pittman in the first round of the 2026 OHL U18 Priority Selection. The Toronto, Ontario native spent last season with the Don Mills Flyers U18 AAA in the GTHL. Pittman stands 6 feet 5 and weighs 220 pounds and had four goals and eight assists in 32 games last year. He will be eligible for the 2027 NHL Draft.

“Matthew adds size to our backend. He is very mobile and is hard to play against. He uses his reach and stick to clog lanes, making it difficult on other teams’ offense. Our staff feels that he has a lot of potential moving forward.”
