Milestone Moments: Dec. 1/17
A pair of 2017 first round OHL Priority Selection choices scored their first career OHL goals on Friday night. Here’s a closer look at those two milestone markers.
TAG BERTUZZI (GUELPH STORM):
Second overall OHL Priority Selection choice Tag Bertuzzi has his first career OHL goal, putting a quick release past Erie’s Troy Timpano on Friday as the Storm took a 5-4 win in overtime. Bertuzzi had help from fellow rookie Mason Primeau and defenceman Dmitri Samorukov on his goal that came with just two seconds remaining in the second period. The 6-foot-1, 199Ib. 16-year-old was delayed by injuries early this season but has bounced back to record four points through 13 games.
MITCHELL RUSSELL (OWEN SOUND ATTACK):
Owen Sound Attack first round (20th overall) pick Mitchell Russell scored his first OHL goal just 1:06 into Friday night’s contest in Kitchener as the Attack fell at the hands of the Rangers by a score of 5-4 in overtime. Russell’s first goal came with assists from Jonah Gadjovich and Jacob Friend as the 16-year-old from Barrie, Ont. fired a nice shot inside the far post past Kitchener’s Luke Richardson. Russell is a graduate of the Barrie Colts Minor Midget program.
