OHL 20 in 20 Futures Watch: Owen Sound Attack
It was a record 2016-17 for the Owen Sound Attack.
49 wins and 102 points are new regular season benchmarks for future clubs to chase in hopes of adding a second Robertson Cup banner to the Bayshore rafters.
Mitchell Russell, the Attack’s first round pick in the 2017 OHL Priority Selection, hopes to be part of history in Owen Sound. The 20th overall pick announced his commitment to the club in June and brings high end skill up the middle having scored 29 goals and 19 assists for 48 points in 33 games for the Barrie Jr. Colts then earned silver with Team OMHA Black at the OHL Gold Cup.
The Attack held a pair of second round picks in 2017 and used them to select goaltender Mack Guzda of Detroit Honeybaked at 31, followed by defenceman Igor Chibrikov of the Mississauga Reps at 40.
Off the ice, the Attack recently announced the hiring of Head Coach Todd Gill replacing Ryan McGill who accepted a job with the Vegas Golden Knights.
Russell and Guzda will represent the Attack at Hockey Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-17 Selection Camp in Calgary on July 22nd.
