Bulldogs acquire Senators prospect Tomas Hamara
The Brantford Bulldogs made a significant addition to their blueline on Saturday morning, acquiring Ottawa Senators prospect Tomas Hamara from the Kitchener Rangers in exchange for a pair of draft picks.
A 19-year-old from Prague, Czechia, Hamara joins the Bulldogs having recorded three assists over 18 games with the Rangers this season, posting a plus/minus rating of plus-13. The 6-foot, 192Ib. defender recorded 17 points (2-15–17) in 56 games with the Blueshirts in 2022-23 after being selected with the 26th overall pick of the 2022 CHL Import Draft.
The Bulldogs sent Kitchener a third-round pick in 2024 (Owen Sound’s) along with a fourth-round choice in 2027.
“We are very excited to welcome Tomas to our group,” said Bulldogs GM Matt Turek. “Tomas is a player we targeted for his presence on the blueline and feel he can help us on the ice immediately and provide leadership.”
The Rangers announced the trade on Saturday morning shortly following the return of Tampa Bay Lightning prospect Roman Schmidt from the American Hockey League’s Syracuse Crunch. Sixteen-year-old defender Cameron Reid will also return to the back end this week after winning gold with Team Canada White at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.
Hamara helped Brantford pick-up three of a possible four points over the weekend, suiting up in their 4-0 win over the Sudbury Wolves before playing in Sunday’s 5-4 overtime road loss to the Peterborough Petes.
Hamara, who was selected by the Senators in the third-round of the 2022 NHL Draft, is a candidate for Czechia’s national junior team next month after helping them win silver in last year’s tournament. He joins fellow Ottawa draft pick Jorian Donovan on the Brantford blueline.
