Friday Highlights: Festive Sting fill the net in 10-goal outburst
SARNIA 10, ERIE 4
The Sarnia Sting hit double-digits in their ugly Christmas sweaters Friday night, swarming the visiting Erie Otters in a 10-4 victory. Veteran winger Curtis Egert (6, 7, 8) led the way with his first OHL hat-trick, scoring all three goals in the third period while also adding an assist. Rookie forward Jacob Perreault (15, 16) had two goals and an assist while Hugo Leufvenius (21) had a goal and two helpers and captain Ryan McGregor picked up three assists. Jamieson Rees (4), Calvin Martin (9), Brayden Guy (9) and Alexandre Hogue (3) added singles for Sarnia as they outshot the Otters 41-31 and went 3-for-6 on the power play. Elias Cohen (2), Gera Poddubnyi (17), Emmett Sproule (5) and Kyle Maksimovich (16) were Erie goal-scorers as the Otters fell to 13-18-1-0 on the season. The Sting improve to 16-14-2-2 and with 148 goals have scored the most in the OHL this season.

LONDON 3, NIAGARA 2 – OT
The Niagara IceDogs racked up 40 shots and were a step ahead throughout the night until overtime when London’s Josh Nelson (9) snapped a low shot past Stephen Dhillon for the game winner. The Knights defeated the IceDogs 3-2 as goaltender Jordan Kooy provided 38 saves while Nathan Dunkley (10) and William Lochead (3) joined Nelson in the goal-scoring department. The Knights end Niagara’s six-game winning streak as IceDogs goals came from Ivan Lodnia (12) and Oliver Castleman (7). Niagara outshot London 40-28. The Knights shake off a pair of losses to improve to 22-5-2-1. Niagara sits at 19-7-5-0 on the season.

SAULT STE. MARIE 3, MISSISSAUGA 2 – OT
Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Mac Hollowell (11) scored 1:24 into overtime as the Soo Greyhounds skated away with a 3-2 road win over the Mississauga Steelheads. Overage standout Keeghan Howdeshell (26) tied the score at two with 7:44 left in the third period before Hollowell scored the unassisted game winner. Rookie Dominic Mufarreh (2) also scored for the Hounds while goaltender Ethan Taylor made 27 saves for the win. Cole Schwindt (5) and Alan Lyszczarczyk (12) both scored for the Trout who went 2-for-2 on the power play while goaltender Jacob Ingham helped them earn a point with 26 saves. The Hounds improve to 20-8-4-1 while Mississauga falls for the eighth time in the past 10 games, sitting at 15-13-3-0.

SUDBURY 5, KITCHENER 2
The Sudbury Wolves kept the good times rolling on Friday as Quinton Byfield (13, 14) added two more goals in a 5-2 win over the visiting Kitchener Rangers. Sudbury’s eighth-straight win saw Cole Candella (5) launch the Teddy Bear Toss before David Levin (16) and Shane Bulitka (6) netted third period goals. Blueliner Liam Ross picked up a pair of assists while Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen kicked out 27 shots. Joseph Garreffa (10) and Jonathan Yantsis (24) scored Kitchener goals as the Rangers dropped their fourth straight loss, falling to 13-17-3-0. Sudbury climbs back into sole possession of first place in the Central Division, improving to 21-8-1-1 on the season.

SAGINAW 6, WINDSOR 2
The Saginaw Spirit proved too much for the Windsor Spitfires, taking a 6-2 win on home ice behind three-point performances from Damien Giroux (13, 14), Blade Jenkins (12) and DJ Busdeker (8). Tied 2-2 early in the second, the Spirit busted out for four unanswered as Bode Wilde (7) scored the game winner 4:01 into the second period. Cole Perfetti (14) also found the back of the net and Ivan Prosvetov made 36 saves as Saginaw won a third straight contest, improving to 17-11-1-2. Will Cuylle (9) and Cole Purboo (13) scored Windsor goals as the Spits were outshot 42-38 and went 0-for-5 on the power play. The Spitfires drop a fourth straight decision, falling to 14-16-2-1.

Rookie goaltender Andrew MacLean made 27 saves for his first OHL shutout as the Owen Sound Attack took a 3-0 road win in Kingston. Mitchell Russell (5), Griffin Wilson (4) and Zachary Roberts (6) scored for Owen Sound while Manuel Alberg picked up a pair of assists. Owen Sound outshot Kingston 35-27 as Frontenacs goaltender Brendan Bonello provided 32 saves in the loss. The Attack have now won four straight, improving to 18-11-12. Kingston falls to 10-22-1-0.

OTTAWA 3, FLINT 0
Tye Felhaber (36), Quinn Yule (5) and Lucas Peric (3) found the back of the net and Cedrick Andree stopped all 17 shots he faced as the Ottawa 67’s blanked the visiting Flint Firebirds 3-0. Ottawa outshot Flint 29-17, winning their third straight contest to improve to an OHL-leading 25-4-3-1 on the campaign. The Firebirds got a 26-save effort from goaltender Luke Cavallin, suffering their ninth straight loss to fall to 3-28-2-0.

GUELPH 6, PETERBOROUGH 1
The Peterborough Petes opened the scoring on a goal from Cameron Butler (7) before the Guelph Storm roared back with six unanswered in a 6-1 victory on home ice. Dallas Stars prospect Liam Hawel (13, 14) earned first star honours with two goals and an assist while Keegan Stevenson (9, 10) also scored twice and Arizona Coyotes choice Nate Schnarr (17) had a goal and three assists. Cedric Ralph (10) also got in on the action as the Storm outshot the Petes 38-23, going 3-for-6 on the man advantage. Goaltender Anthony Popovich turned aside 22 of 23 shots while Peterborough rookie Tye Austin provided 32 stops in the loss. The Storm end a three-game slide, improving to 15-9-3-4. Peterborough falls to 18-14-0-0.

Overage winger Anthony Salinitri (16, 17, 18) netted a hat-trick while Danil Antropov (9) picked up a goal and three assists as the Oshawa Generals took it to the visiting Hamilton Bulldogs in a 7-1 conquest. Eric Henderson (10) had a goal and two assists while Kyle MacLean (9) and Cole Resnick (2) added singles. Veteran defenceman Matt Brassard chipped in with three assists as the Gennies outshot the Bulldogs 41-30 and went 2-for-4 on the power play. Ben Garagan (4) scored the lone goal for the Dogs as Aidan Hughes made 29 saves in his Generals debut. Hamilton falls to 15-16-2-0. Oshawa has now won eight of 10, improving to 20-10-2-0.
