Wolves and CMHA Sudbury/Manitoulin Team-Up to Raise Awareness About Mental Health
February 14, 2018, SUDBURY – The Sudbury Wolves and Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), Sudbury/Manitoulin Branch are teaming up to raise awareness about the importance of mental health during an upcoming Wolves home game.
The Sudbury Wolves game on Friday, February 16 at 7:05 pm will feature:
- A CMHA-run kiosk so fans can learn more about mental health (in the upper lobby behind section 2, next to the Pup Patrol table)
- A chance to win a Sudbury Wolves Team Autographed stick
- Giveaway of noise-makers compliments CMHA Sudbury/Manitoulin, for the first 1000 fans
- Messages featuring Sudbury Wolves players sharing the importance of mental health
- Public address announcements about mental health
The awareness campaign is part of the ongoing commitment by the Sudbury Wolves and CMHA Sudbury/Manitoulin to implement Talk Today, presented by Teachers Life. Talk Today provides mental health support to players and raises awareness about mental health and suicide prevention throughout communities across the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).
A key piece of the Talk Today program has been to educate players about mental health and suicide prevention. Every team has received mental health training specific to suicide prevention. Each team is also now linked to a CMHA Mental Health Coach, who provides support and mental health resources to individuals in need.
“The Sudbury Wolves, including the players, coaches, parents, billet parents and fans, have truly formed a community of support around the team,” said Emily Zanini, Health Promotion Educator with CMHA Sudbury/Manitoulin and Mental Health Coach to the Sudbury Wolves. “When an entire team comes on board with a program like Talk Today, like the Wolves have, it leaves more room for conversation about mental health on and off the ice.”
“As a partner in the effort to reduce the stigma around mental health, this relationship offers both our organization and the CMHA the opportunity to raise the importance of this topic in today’s society,” said Andrew Dale, VP Marketing & Development of the Sudbury Wolves Hockey Club. “While our community can see what our organization is doing to engage the community broadly, it is partnerships like this that really elevate that awareness.”
Tickets are on sale now for Friday’s game at the Box Office and online at greatersudbury.ca/tickets. Fans are encouraged to skip the box office line and save time with Wolves Web Wednesday. All day Wednesday, every Wednesday, fans can purchase their tickets online and save the service fees.
