(Kitchener, ON) The Rangers scored three times in the third period, turning a one-goal game into a 5-1 blowout victory over the Windsor Spitfires Friday night in front of 7,343 at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium.
Brent Pedersen scored twice and Josh Sterk had three assists, as Kitchener (9-5-1-1) ran its home record to a perfect 5-0.
After a scoreless first period, the home side got a pair of goals 28 seconds apart from Tobias Rieder (6) and Justin Bailey (4) early in the second.
Nick Ebert’s first of the year cut the lead in half at 3:27. But that’s all the scoring Windsor (8-7-0-3) could muster.
Pedersen’s first of the game, a power play marker at 3:36 of the third period, gave the Rangers a 3-1 lead, before Dominic Alberga put the game out of reach on a nice give-and-go play with Ryan Murphy three minutes later.
Pedersen’s second of the night and third of the year rounded out the scoring at 11:26.
Jordan DeKort made 43 saves in a losing cause, while Franky Palazzese wasn’t tested nearly as often, in a 26-save effort in the Kitchener goal.
The Spitfires were outshot 48-27, bringing their total shots allowed in the last two games to 89.
The club returns home to practice Saturday, before welcoming the Belleville Bulls Sunday afternoon (2:05 PM) on Canadian Forces Day at the WFCU Centre.
