(Barrie, ON) Mark Scheifele scored 41 seconds into overtime, as the Barrie Colts completed a wild, 6-5 comeback win over the Spitfires at the Molson Centre on Saturday night.
Leading 5-3 in the dying minutes of the third period, the Spits were assessed a pair of late penalties, resulting in power play goals by Anthony Camara (17:43) and Ryan O’Connor (18:56) that tied the game.
Then, on the first shift of overtime, Andreas Athanasiou stole a puck in the neutral zone and fed Scheifele, who beat Jaroslav Pavelka high to the glove side, capping the victory and a stretch of three goals in less than three minutes.
Ty Bilcke (1), Josh Ho-Sang (5), Kerby Rychel (15), Brady Vail (10) and Chris Marchese (6) had the goals for Windsor (9-8-1-4), which answered Barrie markers three times to knot the game at 3-3 after 40 minutes.
Vail gave the Spits their first lead on the power play at 1:35 of the third, before Marchese made it a two-goal bulge at 6:14.
Jaroslav Pavelka continued his hot play in goal for the Spitfires, making 40 saves. Mathias Niederberger stopped 28 shots for Barrie.
The Spits are right back at it on Sunday, as they visit the Owen Sound Attack for a 2:05 matinee game.
