JACK’S BACK FOR TEAM USA
Spitfires goalie Jack Campbell was named today to USA Hockey’s camp roster for the upcoming World Junior Championship tournament in Buffalo.
The invite comes as no surprise. He led last year’s USA squad to the gold medal at the tournament in Saskatoon, beating Canada in the final.
Campbell is one of the most decorated players in the history of USA Hockey, having earned gold medals at three IIHF events, including the 2010 world under-20, 2010 world under-18 and 2009 world under-18 competitions.
Campbell said it’s a thrill to get a chance to defend last year’s title.
“It’s always an honour to be selected to represent your country. And to have the chance of doing it on home soil for the 2011 World Junior Championships means that much more,” Campbell told windsorspitfires.com. “Everybody on our team is excited to have this opportunity. Our country has high expectations.”
All 29 players invited will participate in a pre-tournament camp, starting on December 17th. The team will play exhibition games against the Rensselaer’s men’s ice hockey team (Dec. 19) and the Czech Republic (Dec. 21).
USA Hockey will then reduce its roster to 22 players prior to the team’s final tune-up against Norway (December 23rd).
The 2011 World Junior Hockey Championships run December 26th to January 5th.
