DIPIETRO TAKEN BY CANUCKS AT #64
(Chicago, IL) – Goaltender Michael DiPietro was taken in the third round of the 2017 NHL Draft Saturday at the United Center.
His overall selection number, #64, is significant for a couple reasons. Not only is it his jersey number, but it’s also the year of his Dad’s Vic’s birth and the reason he wears it in the first place.
A fitting coincidence for a player who has become one of the most complete goalies in his age group in North America, on the way to leading our club to the 2017 Mastercard Memorial Cup title.
“You know, there was a lot of nerves coming into today. I didn’t really know what to expect,” DiPietro said at the podium. “Being able to share it with my Dad and my family here is something that I will never forget. I’m just so happy Vancouver gave me the opportunity.”
