GAMEDAY: ATTACK VISIT AS SPITS AIM FOR SIX STRAIGHT

West Division leaders producing at both ends
by: Juan Peajzon, WindsorSpitfires.com
The Spitfires bring a league-best five-game win streak into tonight’s meeting with the Owen Sound Attack at the WFCU Centre (7:05).
It’s the third game in five-game homestand for a Windsor (15-4-3-0) club that squeaked by a game Guelph Storm bunch in a 3-2 win Thursday.
Christian Fischer had a pair of goals, including the winner, and Garret Hughson (23 saves) won his fifth in as many starts since his arrival in Windsor late last month from the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League.
Owen Sound (10-7-3-1) comes in with a healthy 24 points, good for sixth in the Western Conference. The Attack have scored the second least number of goals in the OHL (55), but have nicely offset the lack of offensive punch by allowing the fourth least in the league (57) thanks in large part to the fine goaltending of Michael McNiven (2.38 GAA, .923 save %).
1/3 THE SAMPLE SIZE
As Game 23 and the one-third mark of the regular season approach tonight, the Spitfires:
1) Sit first in the West Division and second in the Western Conference, with 33 points
2) Remain unbeaten in regulation at the WFCU Centre (7-0-2-0)
3) Have won 8 times while already burning 13 road games off the schedule
Modestly achieved, the Spitfires are getting it done at both ends of the ice.
Fischer is second in goals (12) on a club that has scored the third most in the conference (87) and he’s one of five skaters with 20 or more points (DiGiacinto – 25, Brown – 23, Latour – 21, Luchuk – 20).
At the other end, Hughson and Amherstburg’s Michael DiPietro have posted 10 wins in 11 combined decisions, chalking up 2.20 and 1.80 goals against averages, along with .932 and .941 save percentages, respectively.
