The Spitfires Fell 5-4 in Game 2, Series Tied 1-1
The Spitfires had their chances but failed to capitalize on some of their Grade A chances. The Spitfires got into some penalty trouble in the 2nd and got behind by a few goals. They rallied back but couldn’t complete the comeback.
In the first period, both teams battled hard and Xhekaj and Perrott dropped the mitts just 13 seconds in to set the tone. Perrott may have lost the fight but gave the boys lots of energy and to get the games first goal. Just under five minutes in, the Spits were on the powerplay Maggio and Johnston traded passes before the puck went to Henaults stick and he shot from the point into the back of the net. The Bulldogs would score 3 goals in 3:30 to take a 3-1 lead. Both teams had 8 shots.
In the second period, just halfway through the period Hamilton would make it a 4-1 lead on the powerplay. Just six and a half minutes later, Maggio scored his 1st on the night to make it a 4-2 game. With just seconds remaining in the 2nd Hamilton would restore their 3 goal lead and take a 5-2 lead heading into the 2nd intermission.
In the third period, the Spitfires would add two late goals from Perrott and Maggio; one with the net empty to make it a close 5-4 game. The Spitfires would come close but couldn’t find the game tying goal and fell 5-4.
The Spitfires and Bulldogs are back in action tomorrow on TSN 4/5 for Game 3. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00pm.
