Marc Savard Accepts NHL Coaching Role in Calgary

WINDSOR, ON. – The Windsor Spitfires would like to thank Head Coach Marc Savard for an amazing two years with the club. We are pleased to announce that Marc has accepted an assistant coaching position with the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League (NHL).
In 1995, Marc was selected in the NHL Entry Draft by the New York Rangers in the 4th round, 91st overall. A product of the Oshawa Generals; his pro career started with the AHL Hartford Wolf Pack, playing in fifty-eight games while also appearing in twenty-eight with the NY Rangers during the 1997-98 season. Savard’s professional playing career lasted fifteen seasons with NHL stops in Calgary, Atlanta and Boston and the American Hockey League’s Hartford Wolf Pack. Savard played over 800 games in the NHL and recorded 706 points throughout his career.
Savard started his coaching career in 2019-2020 with the St. Louis Blues as an assistant coach before making the transition to Windsor.
Savard had a fantastic first season as head coach. The Spitfires went 44-17-4-3 (95pts) and clinched first place in the Western Conference. Savard guided the Spitfires to his first 40 plus win season in his first year as head coach. The Spitfires also made it to the OHL Championship Series but fell to the Hamilton Bulldogs in 7 games.
Savard followed up his second season with the club with another impressive record of 44-18-4-2 (94pts). The Spitfires were again on top of the Western Conference. The Spitfires were unfortunately swept in the first round of the playoffs by the Kitchener Rangers.
Overall, as a coach in the OHL, Savard has a record of 88-35-8-5.
