WHALERS EARN SPLIT WITH 6-4 NYE WIN
Spits see modest 2-game streak snapped

Connor Chatham scored the eventual game winner early in the third period, as the Whalers beat the Spitfires 6-4 at the WFCU Centre Wednesday afternoon.
The win gave Plymouth (13-21-2-1) a home and home split after Windsor (13-21-1-0) won took an 8-4 decision in the opener in Michigan on Tuesday.
Liam Murray and Trevor Murphy each had a goal and an assist in a losing cause, while Ryan Moore (5) and Cristiano DiGiacinto (12) also scored for the home side.
The loss marked the fourth time this season the Spits were unable to win a third consecutive games.
Mitch Jones, Vince Scognamiglio and Victor Crus Rydberg all scored their fourth goals of the season for the winners, while Nicholas Caamano (2) and Josh Wesley (3) also added singles, as Plymouth pulled back into a tie with the Spitfires for last in the Western Conference.
Alex Fotinos (19 saves) started in goal for Windsor, but was pulled in favour of Brendan Johnston after surrendering four goals in 40 minutes.
Zack Bowman went the distance for the Whalers, making 26 saves for just his second win of the season.
The Spits next see action this Saturday, as they visit Erie to take on the Otters, before making their only visit of the season to Mississauga on Sunday.
