SPITS HOLD 5TH OVERALL PICK SATURDAY
The Windsor Spitfires hold the fifth overall pick in the first round of Saturday’s 2012 OHL Priority Selection.
It’s the highest selection the Spits have enjoyed since they chose Taylor Hall with the second pick in 2007.
Depending on who you ask, the top-5 choices this weekend should include: F Connor McDavid, D Rolland McKeown and F Joshua Ho Sang of the GTHL’s Toronto Marlboros, F Eric Cornel of the OEMHL’s Upper Canada Cyclones and F Robert Fabbri of the GTHL’s Mississauga Rebels or F Jared McCann of the London Jr Knights.
All six are considered can’t-miss players with the ability to step into the league next year and make an impact.
“We’re going to get a marquee player in here, regardless of who it is,” Spitfires GM Warren Rychel told windsorspitfires.com. “He’ll come in and probably play big minutes minutes right away.”
Asked what his single-biggest need is heading into the draft, Rychel said bolstering his forward group.
“I think we need more skill in here. We need more skill up front. I plan on addressing that.”
After a lean collection of choices in last year’s draft, particularly in the early rounds, Rychel has the luxury of 16 picks this time around.

ROUND 1: (#5), ROUND 2: (#41), ROUND 3: (#45 & #47), ROUND 4: (#74).
The Spitfires have 11 more picks from the 6th round on.
