While playing for the Kitchener Rangers during the 1966-1967 season Wayne greatly enjoyed entertaining the large crowds at the Auditorium. In 1967, he accepted a hockey scholarship from Boston University and during his senior year recorded 40 points in 31 games as he and his teammates were crowned NCAA National Champions. While at BU, Wayne got his Bachelor of Science in Physical Education, and moved on to Kent State University, where he obtained his M. Ed in Athletic Administration in 1973. Wayne returned to Kitchener-Waterloo to serve as Head Coach of the Wilfred Laurier University hockey team – a position he held for 25 years. Wayne was a very successful coach with many awards and trips to championships while subsequently being very involved in the community, contributing to a number of programs and volunteering at numerous hockey events.
