Team Ontario wins 2013 WU17 Warmup
Team Ontario beat Sweden 7-2 Friday night in a pre-competition exhibition prior to the 2013 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.
Ontario jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first period with goals by Sam Bennett (Kingston Frontenacs) and Jacob Middleton (Owen Sound Attack).
Connor McDavid (Erie Otters) scored shorthanded early in the second period before Robby Fabbri (Guelph Storm) made it 4-0.
Leading 4-1 after two periods, Dante Salituro (Ottawa 67’s) put Ontario ahead 5-1 with a goal just 1:33 into the third period.
Ontario’s final two goals came from Daniel De Sousa (Belleville Bulls), and Middleton who picked up his second goal of the contest.
Niagara IceDogs goaltender Brent Moran got the start in goal and was relieved midway by Guelph Storm prospect Matthew Mancina.
Ontario opens Preliminary Round play Saturday afternoon against Team USA at 1:30 pm in Victoriaville.
