RBC School Tour Visits Two Local Schools
The RBC School Tour concluded this week as the Kitchener Rangers visited Tait Street PS in Cambridge on Tuesday, February 19 and New Hamburg’s Forest Glen PS on Wednesday, February 20.
Tait Street PS played host to the Captain’s Clinic Tuesday, welcoming new Rangers Josh Leivo and Frank Corrado to the gymnasium to workout with many of the school’s junior students. With the students split into eight teams, Frank and Josh quickly got everyone warmed up and ready to play. The room was filled with laughter and activity as two simultaneous games were played on either side of the gym. The Rangers took on different roles as the morning unfolded, from referee to scorekeeper. Corrado even tried his luck between the pipes, after finding an adult-sized goalie paddle in the equipment closet.
After nearly an hour of hard work, the players (big and small) settled down to talk hockey. The students were given a chance to ask questions, and one little girl came up with one of the most original inquiries of the season.
“Have you ever played air guitar on your hockey stick?” she asked sincerely, inciting honest laughter from the players. Corrado was the first to fess up, admitting that he had done it once to celebrate a goal.
After a few autographs, Josh and Frank were off to practice, but first, thanked the students of Tait Street PS for their hospitality.
The RBC School Tour rolled on the next day, headed to New Hamburg and the library at Forest Glen PS. Eric Ming and Ben Thomson arrived ready to read, with a copy of Brady Brady and the MVP , by Mary Shaw and Chuck Temple in tow. The veteran Rangers made sure to flip the book around after every page, sharing the illustrations with the second grade students. Thomson even donned a character voice as he shared the story of Brady Brady, Kev and their teammates.
When the story was over, the players asked the students a series of questions about the material, sharing their own on-ice tales and experiences in the process. The children were then invited to ask their own questions, inquiring about everything from their travel schedule to the importance of being a good student.
With their time coming to a close, Eric and Ben posed for a large group picture with the students and staff of Forest Glen before hitting the highway back to The Aud.
