RBC SCHOOL TOUR TRAVELS TO BADEN
The RBC School Tour rolled in to Baden, ON on Tuesday, December 3, bringing new Rangers Brandon Robinson and Scott Teskey to read with the students of Baden Public School.
Two young fans in Rangers jerseys met the forwards in the school’s office, where they showed off their sweaters before racing the players excitedly through the hallways. The junior and senior kindergarten classes crowed around the rocking chairs at the front of the classroom, eagerly listening to Scott and Brandon as they read Roch Carrier’s ‘The Hockey Sweater’, the classic tale of a young boy obsessed with Maurice Richard who is forced by his mother to don a Toronto Maple Leafs jersey.
Surrounded by the students’ brightly coloured art work, the players were soon the listeners, laughing as the children told their own hockey stories. Scott and Brandon also showed off the back of their sweaters, helping the young students with their math by flashing their numbers, 9 and 19, respectively.
After the story was over, all of the excited kindergarteners were invited to get up close to the players, who posed for photos and greeted each student individually. Their only complaint?
“This chair’s a little hard on the back,” laughed Robinson, as he piled his 6-foot-3 fame into the child-size seat.
