RANGERS SHUT OUT IN GUELPH

Justin Nichols stopped all 32 shots the Kitchener Rangers tested him with and secured a 3-0 win for the Guelph Storm on Sunday afternoon.

Ben Harpur scored the lone goal of the first period, lifting the Storm to a 1-0 lead at 5:38. The Ottawa Senators prospect picked up a pass from Robby Fabbri and snapped a long shot from the point past Kitchener starter Dawson Carty. Newly acquired overager Chris Marchese earned the second assist on Harpur’s fourth goal of the year. 

The Rangers led shots on goal 12-6 after 20 minutes.

Tyler Bertuzzi added to Guelph’s lead late in the middle frame, threading a glove-side shot past Carty for his 12th of the season. Fabbri and Harper each picked up their second point of the game with assists on the play.

The Storm out-shot the Rangers 12-5 in the second period.

Bertuzzi notched his second of the afternoon in the dying seconds of the third period, finding an empty Rangers net and securing a 3-0 Guelph win. Assists on the play were credited to defencemen Ben Harpur and Zac Leslie.

The Rangers led shots on goal 14-8 in the third and finished with a 32-27 overall advantage. Justin Nichols earned the shutout for Guelph, his first of the 2014-15 season.
