Rangers Fall 6-1 in London
A four-point game from Max Domi led the London Knights to a 6-1 win over the Kitchener Rangers on Sunday afternoon. Evan McEneny scored the lone Rangers goal, his sixth of the season.
The Knights opened the scoring late in the first period, when Max Domi found Alex Broadhurst in front of the Rangers net. He slid the puck around the right pad of Kitchener goalie Joel Vienneau to record his 22nd of the season. Tommy Hughes also picked up an assist on the goal at 18:37.
Kitchener was quick to respond, leveling the score 37 seconds later. Evan McEneny collected a pass from Domenic Alberga in high slot and fired quick shot over the shoulder of Anthony Stolarz. The goal was the Vancouver Canucks prospect’s sixth of the season.
London out-shot the Rangers 12-11 through the first period.
The Knights capitalized on an early period power play opportunity to regain their one goal lead. Less than a minute into the frame, rearguard Olli Maatta’s shot was turned aside by Vienneau, but Domi batted down the rebound in front of the net and buried it under the goaltender for his 38th of the year.
Broadhurst’s second of the game extended the Knights’ lead to two goals at the 5:51 mark. Domi’s pass found the centre to the right of Vienneau and he fired a high shot, just under the cross bar, to put London ahead 3-1.
The Knights continued to press, adding a 4-on-4 goal just past the midway point of the period. Chris Tierney snapped the puck high over the glove hand of Vienneau for his 17th of the season. Tyler Ferry and Josh Anderson collected the assists on the play.
London continued to lead shots on goal 16-7 in the middle frame.
Domi’s second goal of the game pushed the Knights’ lead to 5-1 at the 8:13 mark of the third period. With London on the power play, the draft eligible forward fired a wrist shot high into the top corner of the Kitchener net. The marker was his fourth point of the afternoon, assisted by Maatta and Broadhurst.
Remi Elie’s sixth goal of the season, a long low shot that flew under Vienneau, lifted London to a 6-1 victory. Assisting on the play were Hughes and Jacob Jammes.
The Rangers led shots on goal 13-5 in the third, but the Knights finished with a 33-31 overall advantage on the shot clock.
