Rangers expand Business Operations Staff
Kitchener, Ont. – The Kitchener Rangers are proud to announce three changes within the organization. Alex Witherspoon has been promoted to Marketing and Brand Manager, Sawyer Hume has been hired full-time as Ticketing & Sponsorship Coordinator and Abbey Steeneveld has been hired full-time as Partnerships, Merchandise & Community Coordinator.

Witherspoon, 31, started in the sports industry in 2010, having worked for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the Canadian Football League (CHL) and Core Entertainment, an entertainment and artist management company. A native of Dundas, Ont., Witherspoon began with the Rangers in 2018 as Graphic Designer, before being promoted to Digital Marketing Manager in 2020. Now as the Marketing and Brand Manager, Witherspoon will be in charge of the planning, implementation, and monitoring of all Rangers’ marketing campaigns, while developing the Rangers’ overall brand and look, and overseeing the club’s content creation and digital media platforms. Witherspoon earned an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Multimedia from McMaster University and currently resides in Cambridge.
“I’m excited for this new opportunity with the Rangers organization,” said Witherspoon. “I look forward to working with our team to continue enhancing the Rangers brand and digital media platforms and connecting the Rangers to our community.”
Hume, 22, is a native of Guelph, Ont. Hume recently graduated from the University of Guelph with an Honours Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing Management (Co-op) and a Minor in Project Management.
“It’s truly special for me to be part of a renowned OHL organization that I’ve cherished for a long time,” said Hume. “I grew up watching the Rangers, Steve Mason was my favorite player. I’m excited about the opportunity to contribute to the team and make a positive impact on the community.”
Steeneveld, 23, is also a native of Guelph and has been with the Kitchener Rangers since 2021, initially as a Game Operations intern and later as Floor Director. With her extensive background in track and field, she understands the importance of teamwork and achieving excellence. Abbey is a recent graduate from the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sports Business and a minor in Law. In her new role, Abbey will be responsible for managing partnerships, enhancing merchandise strategies, and fostering community relations. Her appointment aligns with the Kitchener Rangers’ commitment to providing growth opportunities within the organization and strengthening connections with fans and the community.
“I am thrilled to embark on the next phase of my career with the Kitchener Rangers, assuming a new full-time position,” said Steeneveld. “Working with the team has been nothing short of exhilarating, and I am eager to further leverage my skillset and dedication to contribute to the organization’s continued growth and success. I am looking forward to the 2023-24 season in R-town. Let’s go Rangers!”
