Rangers Claim 6-4 Win Over Storm
After a back and forth battle, Ryan Murphy’s strong play in the third period helped lead the Rangers to a 6-4 win over the Guelph Storm.
Tyler Beck put the Storm up 1-0 on a power play goal at 7:59 of the first period. Matt Tipoff replied for the Rangers with his first goal of the regular season to level the score 1-1. Kitchener’s Jamie Doornbosch claimed the lead 2-1 for the Rangers at the 13:23 mark, posting his first goal of the season. Guelph outshot Kitchener 11-8 in the period.
The Storm’s Michael Latta tied the game at 2-2 just over the 7-minute mark of the second period. Guelph would regain the lead with a power play goal by Peter Holland at 16:43. Cody McNaughton increased the Storm lead 4-2 after going top shelf on Mike Morrison at 17:58. Guelph outshot Kitchener 14-12 in the period.
Tobias Rieder scored off a long shot that brought the Rangers within one goal of the Storm early in the third period. Murphy evened scoring 4-4 after he picked up a lose puck at 8:16 on a Rangers power play. Matt Tipoff directed a shot from the point by Murphy past Storm netminder Brandon Foote at 9:31 to give the Rangers a 5-4 lead. Murphy closed scoring 6-4 at the 13:04 mark after netting his second power play goal of the afternoon. The Rangers outshot the Storm 15-10 in the period.
