RANGERS AND SPIRIT COMPLETE TRADE
Kitchener Rangers General Manager Murray Hiebert announced Thursday that the team has completed a trade with the Saginaw Spirit.
In the trade, the Rangers acquire goaltender Jake Paterson from the Spirit. In return, Saginaw receives Kitchener’s second round pick in the 2018 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection, and Kitchener’s third round pick in the 2017 Priority Selection.
Paterson has a career record of 82-65-7-6, with a 3.44 goals against average and a .904 save percentage in 166 games played with the Spirit, and has twice represented Canada at the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships (2013, 2014). Drafted in the third round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft by the Detroit Red Wings, he signed an entry-level contract with the team in September 2013.
The Mississauga, ON native is 12-11-0-1 this season, with a 3.48 goals against average and a .905 save percentage.
“Jake an athletic goaltender who gives his team a chance to win every night, and comes to Kitchener with vast playoff and international experience,” says Troy Smith, Head Coach of the Rangers. “Beyond that, Jake is a fantastic young man who will provide veteran leadership to our group.”
