Petes Push Past Rangers 6-4
Ryan Spooner scored the game winning goal with just 1:15 left in the third period to lead the Peterborough Petes to a 6-4 victory over the Kitchener Rangers.
After 20 minutes of play the Petes held a 3-2 advantage over the Rangers.Tobias Rieder opened up the scoring at the 5:39 mark to give Kitchener the lead. Peterborough replied with a short-handed marker by Jack Walchessen, his first of the season to level the score at 1-1. Spooner put the Petes up 2-1 over the Rangers at the 13:23 mark. Exactly 1-minute later Kitchener tied the game when Eric ming beat Bryce O’Hagan at 14:23. Adrian Robertson closed scoring in the period and picked up his third point of the game with just 1:22 left in the first.
After a scoreless second period the Rangers came from behind when Gabriel Landeskog netted a goal over the shoulder of O’Hagan at 7:13 to make it 3-3.Kitchener scored a tic-tac-toe goal from Tobias Rieder to Matt Tipoff and finally Andrew Crescenzi who was waiting at the doorstep of the Petes net to put the Rangers up 4-3 at the midway mark of the period. Peterborough answered right back just 12-seconds later with a goal by Kalle Ekelund to even the score once more (4- 4). Spooner gave the Petes a 5-4 lead after scoring short side, glove hand on Rangers netminder Mike Morisson at 18:45. Spooner picked up a hat-trick with an empty net goal at 19:59.
The Rangers’ Matt Tipoff was named the third star of the game in picking up two assists.
