Ontario opens WU17 with 5-0 Shutout over Germany
WINDSOR, Ont. – Spencer Martin (Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors) made 19 saves for the shutout as Ontario opened defense of its World Under-17 Hockey Challenge gold medal with a 5-0 victory over Germany in front of more than 3,000 fans at the WFCU Centre on Thursday afternoon.
Hometown favourite Adam Bateman (Windsor Spitfires) and captain Bo Horvat (London Knights) led the offence for Ontario, recording a goal and an assist each, while Brandon Robinson (Brampton Battalion), Nicholas Ritchie (Peterborough Petes) and Windsor native Trevor Murphy (Peterborough Petes) also found the back of the net.
Aaron Ekblad (Barrie Colts) and Max Domi (London Knights) added two assists each in the victory.
Ontario will look for a 2-0 start against Sweden on Friday night in Windsor (7 p.m. ET).
