MAGYAR SCORES TWICE IN WIN OVER KNIGHTS
Nick Magyar scored a pair of goals and added an assist on Tuesday night, leading the Kitchener Rangers to a 4-2 home win over the London Knights. Ryan MacInnis and Darby Llewellyn also scored in the victory, the Rangers’ third in a row.
Ryan MacInnis put the Rangers on the board first, opening the scoring with less than four minutes remaining in the first period. The Arizona Coyotes prospect bounced a long shot through Knights goaltender Tyler Parsons to notch his 15th of the year. Connor Bunnaman and Nick Maygar picked up the assists on the goal, MacInnis’ third in two games. The sophomore centre has at least one point in each meeting with London this season.
Just 27 seconds later, number 27 stretched Kitchener’s lead to 2-0. Darby Llewellyn picked up Mike Davies’ pass from behind the net and sent a low shot flying past Parsons. His 13th of the year and second in as many games against the Knights was also assisted by Swedish import Gustaf Franzen.
The Rangers dominated shots on goal 22-8 after 20 minutes of play.
London hit the scoreboard five minutes into the middle frame. Rookie defenceman Victor Mete potted his fifth of the year, snapping a puck past Rangers starter Jake Paterson. Assists on the play were credited to fellow rookie Cliff Pu and Tait Seguin.
Nick Magyar restored the Rangers’ two-goal advantage with 62 seconds left in the period, sending the club into the second intermission with a 3-1 lead. The Ohio native batted the puck past Parsons for his 12th of the season, with assists from Brandon Robinson and MacInnis.
Kitchener out-shot London 10-8 in the second period.
Magyar’s second of the game put the Rangers ahead 4-1 with less than ten minutes to play. The Colorado Avalanche prospect banked a shot off a defender in front of the net and under Parsons, recording his second two-goal game in less than a week. The goal was assisted by Franzen and Max Iafrate.
The Knights would get one back quickly, scoring less than three minutes later to close their gap to 4-2. Drake Rymsha collected a pass from Chandler Yakimowicz and swept a high shot over Paterson for his fifth of the year.
The Rangers led shots on goal 16-10 in the third and finished with a 48-26 overall advantage. The win was Kitchener’s third in a row, improving the team’s record to 23-15-3-6. The Rangers have also picked up six straight wins on home ice.
