Kitchener Rangers announce player commitment from Alex Peterson
The Kitchener Rangers announced today that defenceman Alex Peterson has committed to an Ontario Hockey League standard player agreement with the club. Peterson was the team’s ninth round pick (171st overall) in the 2015 OHL Priority Selection.
The 6’02, 180lbs Kenora, Ontario native was drafted from the Thunder Bay Kings, and spent the 2015-16 season as a member of the GOJHL’s Elmira Sugar Kings. In 50 games played, he finished third in team scoring amongst defencemen, registering seven goals and 12 assists for 19 points, including three power play goals and one game winner, as well as 51 PIMs.
He registered a goal and an assist with eight penalty minutes in 11 playoff games this season with the Sugar Kings.
Rangers General Manager Murray Hiebert says Peterson can frustrate his opponents at both ends of the ice.
“He has shown a good offensive upside,” noted Hiebert, “and his long reach makes him a difficult player to play against.”
