Gibson Named Rangers Playoff MVP
The Kitchener Rangers Hockey Club announced Monday that John Gibson is the recipient of the Charles Chalkin Memorial Trophy as the team’s Most Valuable Player in the 2013 Postseason. This is the second consecutive season that the goaltender has been recognized as the club’s playoff MVP.
Originally drafted by Kitchener in the 2009 OHL Priority Selection, Gibson posted a 5-4-1 record in the playoffs and shut out the Guelph Storm in Game 2 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals. The Pittsburgh, PA native started all of the Rangers postseason games, earned one of the top save percentages in the Ontario Hockey League (.946%) and sat in the top five in the league with a 2.17 goals against average.
Selected by the Anaheim Ducks in the second round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Gibson signed with the team in March 2012. He also backstopped the United States to a gold medal at the 2013 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship, where he was named tournament MVP.
