Rangers’ Costantini signs ATO with Vancouver Canucks’ AHL affiliate, Abbotsford
Kitchener, Ont. – The Abbotsford Canucks, American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the NHL’s Vancouver Canucks, announced Tuesday that they have signed Kitchener Rangers goaltender Marco Costantini to an AHL Amateur Tryout (ATO) agreement.
Costantini, 20, played a career-high 47 games this past season with the Rangers, finishing with the OHL’s ninth-best goals against average (3.23) and the seventh-best save percentage (.900).
The Hamilton, Ont. native was originally drafted by his hometown team the Hamilton Bulldogs in the fifth round (95th overall) of the 2018 OHL Priority Selection where he spent three years before being acquired by the Rangers in a trade in October of 2022.
He played a critical role for Hamilton, winning the Leyden Trophy as the OHL’s East Division champions, the Eastern Conference regular season, the Hamilton Spectator Trophy as the league’s best overall record, the Bobby Orr Trophy as winners of the OHL’s Eastern Conference Playoffs, and the J. Ross Robertson Cup as winners of the OHL Playoffs Final to advance to the 2022 CHL Memorial Cup. A veteran at the championship level, Costantini played in all five Memorial Cup games for Hamilton, including the championship game, and recorded a 3.34 GAA and a .901 save percentage. Costantini was named to the OHL’s 2021-22 Third All-Star Team and was also invited to compete in the Toronto Maple Leafs Training Camp this past September.
Costantini finished his OHL career with a 65-41-15 record in 126 games through 4 years along with a 3.18 GAA and a .989 SAV%. In the playoffs, he was 21-6-1, recording a 2.53 GAA and a .911 SAV% in 28 postseason games.
The overage netminder played his AAA youth hockey with both the Toronto Jr. Canadiens and the Vaughan Kings in the Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL). He spent one season playing Jr. B with the Hamilton Kilty B’s in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL).
The Abbotsford Canucks (Vancouver Canucks) swept the Bakersfield Condors (Edmonton Oilers) 2-0 in the first round of the AHL Playoffs and begin the Pacific Division Semifinals against the Calgary Wranglers (Calgary Flames) Wednesday night.
