BAILEY SCORES IN RANGERS LOSS
Justin Bailey scored the lone goal for the Kitchener Rangers in a 4-1 loss to the Mississauga Steelheads on Sunday afternoon.
The Rangers took a 1-0 lead near the midway point of the opening frame after sophomore winger Justin Bailey forced a turnover inside the Steelheads’ blueline. The Buffalo Sabres prospect battled by the defender and poked a shot between the pads of goaltender Spencer Martin to notch his fourth of the year.
Mississauga out-shot the Rangers 11-10 in the first period.
The Steelheads pulled even two minutes into the second period, off the stick of Josh Burnside. Andrew Goldberg feed a cross ice pass to the third year winger, and he unleashed a high shot past Rangers starter Jordan DeKort. Burnside’s second of the year was also assisted by rookie Sean Day.
Less than 90 seconds later, Mississauga pulled ahead 2-1. Import winger Sam Babintsev’s wrist shot from the slot soared by DeKort for his second of year. Jared Walsh and Bobby MacIntyre picked up assists on the goal at 3:31.
Each team fired 10 shots on goal in the middle frame.
Mississauga pulled ahead 3-1 at the 6:50 mark of the final period. Goldberg corralled a rebound at the feet of DeKort, and bounced a shot off the goal post and behind the netminder. The third year forward’s third goal in as many games was assisted by Jesse Barwell and Jacob Graves.
Goldberg added an empty net goal in the final minute to notch his second of the game. The unassisted tally sealed a 4-1 Steelheads win.
Mississauga out-shot Kitchener 8-7 in the third, finishing with a 29-27 overall advantage on the shot clock.
