Team White wins final intrasquad tilt, 6-5 – Scrimmage 3
Team White picked up their first win of Training Camp, a 6-5 decision over Team Blue in the week’s final intrasquad scrimmage Wednesday morning at The Aud.
It was a back and forth affair which saw Team White open the scoring on a goal by Greg Meireles just 1:41 into the opening frame, assisted by Jake Henderson and Joseph Garreffa.
Just under three minutes later Team Blue responded as Riley Damiani made it a 1-1 game, unassisted, at 4:07. Cole Carter rounded out first period scoring, giving Team Blue their first lead of the game from Rickard Hugg and Connor Bunnaman at 7:22.
Another early goal came in the second period, again from Team White as Garreffa notched things up at 2-2 at 0:47 from Henderson and Meireles.
Team White reclaimed the lead, 3-2, as Dylan Seitz tallied just 18 seconds later, with assists to Nick McHugh and Eric Guest.
With Team White serving a two-minute minor for hooking, Bunnaman evened things up, 3-3, at 6:47 of the second with Carter earning the lone assist on the goal.
Each team would change goaltenders following the Bunnaman goal, and Kobe Desmond would keep the momentum going for Team Blue as he capitalized on another man advantage opportunity to give his team a 4-3 lead, from Logan Stanley and Kyle Gentles at 10:06.
But before long it was Team White’s turn to cash in on the power play, as Alex Peterson scored to deadlock the game, 4-4, with Meireles earning the assist.
The six-goal second period was rounded out by Connor Hall who gave Team White a 5-4 lead at 14:27, assisted by Guest.
Jonathan Yantsis made it 5-5 at 7:14 of the third period, assisted by Adam Liška, but Team White would strike last as Mike Petizian notched the eventual game winner at the 10:11 mark, assisted by Giovanni Vallati, on the power play.
Luke Richardson (first half of game) and Jacob Hearne (second half of game) were in goal for Team Blue, while Lucas Pfeil (first half) and Connor Hasley (second half) manned the net for Team White.
The game consisted of three, 15-minute periods with two-minute penalties.
