Rangers name Nick Lichti Head Athletic Therapist
Kitchener, Ont. – The Kitchener Rangers announced today that the club has hired Nick Lichti (pronounced lik-tee) as Head Athletic Therapist.
Lichti, 29, comes to the Rangers familiar to the Canadian Hockey League (CHL), most recently spending the last two years as the Head Athletic Therapist and Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Western Hockey League’s (WHL) Winnipeg Ice. Prior to his time with the Ice, Lichti was the Assistant Athletic Therapist and Assistant Equipment Manager for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the Canadian Football League (CFL), the highest level of professional football in Canada.
“We are happy to welcome Nick and his family to Kitchener,” said Kitchener Rangers General Manager Mike McKenzie. “Nick will play a critical role in the success of our operation, keeping our players healthy and prepared to perform at the highest level.”
A native of New Hamburg, Ont., Lichti is a Certified Athletic Therapist (CAT(C), and is also First Responder Certified and Basic Life Support Certified.
As the club’s Head Athletic Therapist, Lichti is tasked with recognizing, assessing, managing, and rehabilitating musculoskeletal (muscles, bones, joints) injuries. Lichti will be the club’s first responder at all games and practices, will work closely with the Rangers team doctors and orthopedic surgeons to initiate, design, and implement specialized therapy programs and observe and analyze Rangers players during treatment sessions.
“To be able to come home and work for a team I grew up so close to is very special,” said Lichti. “It’s a special opportunity to be able to work for such a storied franchise and a team that the surrounding community loves so much.”
Lichti holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Kinesiology-Athletic Therapy from the University of Winnipeg along with a second Bachelor of Kinesiology (BKin) from Brock University in St. Catharines.
Lichti and his wife Brooke plan to move to New Hamburg in time for the upcoming season.
