Rangers close out Preseason Showcase with win over Battalion
Rickard Hugg tallied a goal and assist and was the game’s First Star as the Kitchener Rangers wrapped up the Preseason Showcase with a 4-3 win over the North Bay Battalion in front of 1,984 fans at The Aud on Sunday afternoon.
Joseph Serpa, Greg Meireles and Riley Damiani were the other goal scorers for the Blueshirts, who finished the weekend with a 2-1 record.
Carter Tresoor notched a pair of helpers, while Jonathan Yantsis, Michael Vukojevic and Nick McHugh each added assists in the win. Luke Richardson started in goal and earned the win for the Rangers, making 39 saves on 44 shots, including a pair of back-to-back stops in close on a North Bay attacker to maintain the Kitchener lead in the third period.
Christian Purboo surrendered four goals on 33 shots in goal for the Battalion, who were 1-2 during the Showcase. Justin Brazeau with a pair, and Matthew Struthers with a single were the goal scorers on the afternoon for the Troops.
In morning action, the Saginaw Spirit went 3-0 to cap off their weekend while sending the Moncton Wildcats home with an 0-3 record after a 3-1 decision. For game stats, click here.
