The Rangers team up with SASC Waterloo Region to end gender-based violence
The Kitchener Rangers are hosting their fourth annual OHL ONSIDE event in support of ending gender-based violence with the Sexual Assault Support Centre of Waterloo Region. This will take place on Friday March 6th when they host the Barrie Colts at 7:30pm.
OHL ONSIDE is a leading-edge initiative between the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and the Ontario Coalition of Rape Crisis Centres (OCRCC). The development of this program was informed and supported by the OHL, the Sexual Assault Support Centre of Waterloo Region (SASC), and the Kawartha Sexual Assault Centre (KSAC).
The OHL ONSIDE project is aimed at increasing the understanding and awareness of the young player’s responsibility to demonstrate respect for women and people of all genders through their actions and words.
This project was developed as a two-hour workshop with opportunity for personal development and ongoing leadership as young men in the Ontario Hockey League.
The initiative aims to make the Ontario Hockey League leaders in promoting the importance of respectful relationships between young men, women, and LGBTQ2S+ people in their communities.
The Sexual Assault Support Centre of Waterloo Region’s mission is to “support survivors of sexual violence while listening, facilitating healing, and celebrating resiliency”. Their aim is to “transform systems which promote gender-based violence”.
The evening will include a ceremonial puck drop at centre ice prior to the start of the game and a SASC information table at the Community Corner.
