Rangers acquire Ellinas in trade with Barrie
Kitchener, Ont. – The Kitchener Rangers announced today that the club has completed a trade with the Barrie Colts.
In the trade, Kitchener acquires Barrie Colts prospect and forward Lucas Ellinas. In return, Kitchener trades their fourth-round pick in the 2027 OHL Priority Selection to Barrie.
“We are excited to add Lucas to our hockey club and look forward to seeing him continue his development in Kitchener,” said Kitchener Rangers General Manager Mike McKenzie. “Lucas plays a smart, skilled, and hard-working two-way game that we feel will transition well to the OHL.”
Ellinas was drafted by Barrie in the second round of the 2022 OHL Priority Selection, before signing an OHL Standard Player Agreement (SPA) and education package with the Colts in August of 2022. The six-foot-one, 180-pound, left-shot centreman played last season with the North York Rangers of the Ontario Junior A Hockey League (OJHL). Ellinas registered 11 goals and 12 assists for 23 points in 44 games during the 2022-23 season. From Toronto, Ont., he played his minor hockey with the North York Rangers as well as the Toronto Titans in the Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL).
Ellinas will report to the Rangers 2023 Training Camp at the end of August and wear number 19 this season.
