Job Posting – Game Reporter
OBJECTIVE
To produce and deliver social media posts, press release and website game summary for all of the 2018-19 Kitchener Rangers games (home and away, including playoffs).
OVERVIEW
The Kitchener Rangers are seeking a Game Reporter with strong knowledge of hockey, with focus on the Rangers, the OHL and CHL. This individual will manage all live in-game social media posts while writing the game summary and post game press release.
Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications, and working with the Media and Communications Coordinator to execute the necessary information live during the game. The role requires the candidate to be a skilled writer, who can work in a fast-paced exciting environment.
JOB TASKS
Game Summary –
Preparation and execution of the post game summary which is shared via kitchenerrangers.com, to media partners and via social media. Write as the game is happening and post, send and share to specific groups as the game is completed.
Social Media –
Maintain the Rangers social media presence during the game (Facebook, Twitter). Post goals, score and game summary.
Responsible for the social monitoring, listening, and moderation activities for the Kitchener Rangers social communities during the game. Work closely with the Media and Communications Coordinator to ensure brand requirements are met and consistent messaging is delivered.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE
Experience in journalism, communications or a related field.
Hockey Knowledge – Knowledge of the OHL and proper reporting techniques and vernacular.
English Language – Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar (written/verbal).
Administration and Time Management – Knowledge of organization’s and management’s principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership and coordination of people and resources.
Social Media – Understanding/experience in social media management across a variety of platforms.
SKILLS
Writing and Speaking – Communicating effectively as appropriate for the needs of the audience.
Coordination and Time Management – Adjusting actions/schedule in relations to others’ actions and to ensure deadlines are met.
Ability to multi task and meet deadlines.
Ability to work irregular hours including nights and weekends during the hockey season.
Must be a hard-working, creative, outgoing, ambitious professional who can take the initiative and/or be directed.
Proficient in MS Office XP.
Proficient in various social media platforms and WordPress.
SALARY
$15/hour
3-hour shift per game (ex. 7:30pm game, Start time 7pm – 10pm)
