Game Recap: Greyhounds Shut Down Kitchener’s High-Flying Offense
Game Summary: Kitchener couldn’t solve Charlie Schenkel in the 3-0 loss up north against the Soo Greyhounds. The Rangers entered the match on a five-game win streak while scoring six or more goals in their past four games. Kitchener’s offense has only been shut out once this season, which happened on January 30th against the London Knights. This matchup was the last time these two teams would play each other in the regular season as the Greyhounds won the season series 3-1.
Scoring Summary:
2nd Period
SSM 1, KIT 0
2:31 Justin DeZoete (3) – Christopher Brown, Caeden Carlisle
The Soo scored the game’s first goal early in the second period off the stick of Justin DeZoete. A defensive zone mix-up for Kitchener allowed Christopher Brown to walk down from the point along the boards with the puck and cut toward the net with limited pressure. Brown then sent a backhand pass to DeZoete parked in front of Jackson Parsons who redirected the pass up and over Parsons’ pad giving the Greyhounds the lead.
3rd Period
SSM 2, KIT 0
12:58 Jack Beck (21) – Bryce McConnell-Barker, Gavin Hayes
Jack Beck extended the Greyhounds’ lead as he banged in the puck in tight. Beck and Cameron Reid were battling on top of Jackson Parsons’ crease for positioning as Bryce McConnell-Barker fired the puck on net. The puck never reached Parsons as it hit Reid in the back dropping to Beck’s stick. Beck hacked at the puck firing it off the blocker side post along the ice and into the net.
SSM 3, KIT 0
18:20 Jordan D’Intino (19) – Arttu Karki, Jack Beck – ENG
Kitchener emptied their net with 2:02 remaining in the contest, but just 22 seconds into their effort Jordan D’Intino put the game out of reach. Jack Beck took the puck in the Soo zone and sent a pass cross-ice to Arttu Karki past a diving Carson Rehkopf. Karki sent a pass to D’Intino in the neutral zone who skated with the puck and put it into the empty net to seal the game.
